Robert Charles Stacey

Age: 20

Sex: male

Date: 18 Nov 1938

Place: Kingsmere Pool, Putney Common, London

Robert Charles Stacey was found dead in a pond.

He was a butcher's assistant at a butcher's shop in Abbeville Road and had lived on Kildoran Road in Brixton. His mother said that he had disappeared three weeks earlier after going off to work.

She said, 'He seemed quite happy when he left home, and we could not account for his disappearance'.

It was thought that he might have been murdered and thrown into the pond, but the Coroner said at the inquest that they could brush aside that possibility. It had been suggested that he might have been knocked over by a motorist while cycling to work and then thrown by the motorist into the pond.

An open verdict was returned.
